Consensus Group & Gumdrop partner up to turn chewing gum waste into innovative sustainable products

Rotterdam, 17 January 2023 - Consensus Group proudly announces its new partnership with Gumdrop Ltd. The two parties aim to offer gum chewers an alternative to disposing their waste on the street, and aim to educate users about the sustainable possibilities when chewing gum is collected after use.

Gumdrop Ltd was founded by Anna Bullus in 2009 to tackle the global problem of chewing gum litter. Gumdrop Ltd is the first company in the world to recycle and process chewing gum into a range of new compounds that can be used in the rubber and plastics industry. Every year, in the United Kingdom alone, a shocking total of 150 million pounds are spent on removing chewing gum litter from streets. With Gumdrop’s help, recycled and processed chewing gum can become a vast number of things from wellington boots, Adidas sneakers, to mobile phone covers, stationary, packaging and much more. As well as being used as a more sustainable choice to virgin plastics.

“We are happy and proud to partner with such a game changing and forward thinking organization like Gumdrop.” says Martine Mallee,, head of Engagement and Education at Consensus Group. “Chewing gum waste is a serious issue in the world of hygiene and health. It costs organizations loads of time and money that they should be able to invest in other issues.”

The price speak volumes

“The price of cleaning chewing gum waste speaks volumes.” Martine Mallee continues “And if this many people spit their chewing gum out on the street out of a mindless habit, we have to start offering an alternative. We believe that Gumdrop has the solution to this global problem. They have already established change in the United Kingdom and we are excited to make that same progress happen here in the Benelux.”

An alternative and education

Consensus Group and Gumdrop don’t just plan on introducing the Gumdrop products to the Benelux market. Martine Mallee: “Next to offering an alternative, we clearly need to start the conversation and raise awareness about the matter. Together with Gumdrop and associated parties, we will also be offering educational programs. Because offering an alternative to spitting gum on the ground is one thing, but educating gum users about the effects of their behavior and the innovative possibilities when gum gets collected is equally as important in our eyes. Every change starts with awareness."
